Hey y’all.

My wikipedia article was the above title, a compilation of Zappa tunes released posthumously.

Nylon and steel acoustics, logic flute, xylophone, piano, and vocals about Frank Zappa up all night exploring the astral plane of his mind.

Twas a blast, looking forward to hearing everyone’s tunes.

I love it Dev. So peaceful, with a bit of a Renaissance/Medieval feel. Brings to mind images of maidens picking dandelions and luters playing lutes. Really lovely. I love your vocal phrasing; there are a lot of nice moments and touches in that area. And the flute is doing it for me. Is there a synth under there too?

yay dev! this piece sounds so lovely. i don’t know what i’m talking about with mixing, but i feel like levels are sitting really well for me. i might take a tiny bit of high end off of the vocals. really lovely arrangement and delivery.

Hey hi! I personally really love how the vocals are sitting in the mix!

Welcome brother.

Love how this song about Zappa sounds nothing like Zappa. It is about as tender as most Zappa is not! Always love your layered vocals.

Incredibly serene piece, brother. Right off the bat I’m like yes I want to keep listening. Excellent guitar performance and composition. I would agree with ryan’s comments about space. Could definitely spread some elements more to the side, and remove some competing frequencies. The vocals performance is killer, so some space would do them well. And lastly, find some of those harsher “es” peaks in the EQ and pull those little devils out. Super glad to have you on this! oh and double lastly, post those lyrics in the description please.

what a fun wiki find! love the track and vibe… love to see those lyrics!

i like the guitar/vocal balance but would mix down keys a bit (maybe have some of the higher notes pop out of the mix to create some dynamics). agree with @@ryan.mp3 about possibly removing or reducing the lower register of the keys

this is lovely. bright, full. everything is front and center. i love your chorus. always nice to hear a good lift after a soft intro.

Stoked you’re here, Dev! This track is really lovely. I’ve listened back a bunch of times. Just a great place to spend time. Re: mix — I think it sounds like there’s potentially a bit too much competition going on between the piano, acoustics and vocals. I think removing most of the low end from the keys (considering the part is in a high register anyways) would work well for freeing up some space. Verb it out a bit and let it be more of an ornamenting texture than a foundational part, ya know? Between the acoustics and vocals is a little tougher, but I think the wide panning on the guitars might separate them out enough as is. I’m not yet a MASTER MIXER, so I’ll leave it at that. This is a great submission. Well done.
