  1. rando wiki gave me Aya Shimokozuru, Mahonia taronensis, and Moving Gelatine Plates. i chose the first article, Aya, as her story was bright yet tragic. her article painted a picture of potential mired by catastrophe: one financial, one nuclear. a bright, young olympian soccer star in and out of retirement due to forces beyond her control.
  2. wind from the whistles of the soccer fans cheering. lowkey i kind of forgot this was part of the prompt but upon reflection, whistles aren’t rly vocal (unless you go into the whistle register which i just learned about on the good ol’ google)
  3. i think (?lol) this is a waltz but this entire project has been put together this wknd without instruments (midi or otherwise) just the macbook keys and the clicky click mousey boi. i did my very best, i promise, but i know not what i am doing my dudes.

my hope was to paint a picture of the emotional journey of aya shimokozuru. from a cheered, beloved player, to an olympian, to a retiree, to a captain & back out into the ether. i wanted to play with presence and tension, and used the audio of the soccer fans to play with the atmosphere & shape of her journey.

please enjoy the waltz of aya shimokozuru (下小鶴 綾のワルツ)

feedback on construction, and if it resonated with you, but not on mixing (i was away from home/access to studio monitors).

Bro this is sick as hell and will only be better once you get the chance to mix her up. I could also hear a super rad baritone spoken word/rap vocal coming in on this. Definitely feels like a journey with ups and downs—though I’m not sure I could have pin-pointed the narrative moment of each section. But I think that’s totally okay. I do agree with @@nickon bringing in a new element that differentiates that reprise section. I think Aya would be psyched to have this track featured in the audiobook of her biography.

sick track. definitely feeling her story. love bringing the sample back in the middle. Construction wise, I would only say for the section that restarts at 1:07, maybe adding a new element that creeps in and rides till the end? some hi frequency screech or pluck or something? digging the drama in this one.

i loved this. so dark and digitally fatalistic.. she kept being part of legit, professional teams which fell apart for one reason or another… the fans scream and cheer to encourage players and hopefully have an impact on the game, but that beat is something that feels sinister and unmovable.

love the presentation of the material too (always)- read the wiki article and your notes which gave me much to think about in 91 seconds.

GOALLLLLLLLLLLL

Hi Daeclan- we’ve never met but I like you already.

I love your writing a lot. It’s weird and different and so fucking good.

This is scary stuff. spooked. Your percussion is strong and bring and boomy- so being away from home did not disrupt your mixing.

y’all need to meet.. that’s a must must

lol yeah my head turned at Julia and Dec never having met. Your powers combined would be unstoppable.

Wow. I can hear the story telling. This is fantastic. I really dig the organ sound on the left pan. Creates a great vibe.
